Vol.4 早期英語教育に込める思い。
今回は早期英語教育の重要性について書きます。
まず私の話からしましょう。私のプロフェッショナル・バックグラウンドはITです。これまで一貫してグローバル環境で働いてきました。そこには中国人もいれば、アメリカ人、インド人、韓国人、ベトナム人などなどがおり、多種多様な国籍の方々と働いてきました。
そういった環境では、英語力は確かに必要なツールです。ですが、それよりも必要なものは、技術や専門性です。これまでの経験から、技術や専門性なしに、英語だけに長けていても、グローバルビジネスの現場では通用しないと断言できます。逆に英語が多少拙くても、確かな技術や専門性があれば、意思疎通はなんとかなります。されど、です。高い英語力があれば、活躍の場は飛躍的に広がります。
では何が言いたいのか。それは、英語については早期に「決着」し、技術や専門性を磨くような勉強に励むことが、いわゆるグローバル人材となる最短かつ最も効率的な方法ということです。
外国に行くと、英語が話せることは何の自慢にもなりません。英語力を過度に礼賛するのは日本だけです。私はカナダに留学したことがありますが、留学先でショックを受けた言葉があります。
“Oh, you speak good English. Then, what can you do?”
英語ができるようだけど、ところでお前は何ができるんだ？と。
私は英語が好きで、中学、高校、大学と非常に多くの時間を英語学習に費やしました。ある程度の自信もありました。しかしながら、日本から離れると、英語 + αがないと、決して認められることはありません。私はとても悔しかったです。そして、とにかく技術を身に付けようと、ITの世界に入りました。
社会人になってからも、英語の勉強を怠ったことはありません。これまで5つの英会話スクールに通いました。真剣に通いました。英語学習アプリもいくつか試しました。学生時代を含めると、恐らく2万時間くらいは学習に使い、1,000万円以上は費やしています。ですが、残念ながら今に至っても、スピーキングに関してはまだまだネィティブには及びません。（才能がないのかもしれませんが。）
さて、ようやく結論です。当校も含め、英語教育には確かに安くないお金がかかります。しかし、もし本当にお子様を世界で活躍できる人材に育てたいと思っていらっしゃるならば、早期に英語教育を受けさせることは、長期的に見ればコストパフォーマンスに優れた選択です。
子供たちには、私のような苦労をすることなく、世界に羽ばたいてもらいたいと心から願っています。それが私がこの学校の運営に携わるモチベーションです。
お子様に、早期英語教育という、世界行きのチケットを与えてあげてください。

This time, I will write about the importance of early English education.
Let’s start with my story. My professional background is IT. I have consistently worked in a global environment with Chinese, Americans, Indians, Koreans, Vietnamese, etc., people of various nationalities.
In such an environment, English proficiency is certainly a necessary tool. But what is needed more than that are skills and expertise. From my experience, I can assure you that even if you are good at English without any other skills or expertise, it will not work in the field of global business. On the contrary, even if you are a little poor at English, if you have solid skills and expertise, you can communicate with each other. However, if you have a high level of English, your playing field will expand dramatically.
So what do I want to say? That is, the shortest and most efficient way to become a so-called global person is to “settle” English early and work hard to improve your skills and expertise.
When we go abroad, we can’t boast of being able to speak English. Only in Japan, people overly praises English proficiency. I have studied abroad in Canada, but there are some words that shocked me.
“Oh, you speak good English, then, what can you do?”
I like English and spent a lot of time learning English in junior high school, high school and college. I also had some confidence. However, when you leave Japan, you will never be admitted without English plus alpha. I was embarrassed. That’s why I entered the world of IT to acquire the knowledge of technology.
Even after becoming a member of society, I have never neglected to study English. I have attended 5 English schools so far. I also tried some English learning apps. Including my student days, I probably spent aprox. 20,000 hours and more than 10 million yen. However, unfortunately, even now, my English speaking skill is still far from native speakers. (Maybe I’m not talented.)
Well, finally the conclusion. English education, including our school, certainly costs a lot of money. However, if you really want to develop your child into a talented person who can play an active role in the world, getting an early English education is a cost-effective choice in the long run.
I sincerely hope that the children will fly to the world without having a hard time like me. That is my motivation to run this school.
