ENGLISH EDUCATION IS THE BEST WE CAN GIVE TO OUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN, ENROLL THEM AT GIS AND KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!

What is Guam International School?

The opening of Guam International School has been inspired by many wonderful experiences which the founder has been involved in with education, the PTA and his activities as a Guam Honorary Ambassador at Large. We want to develop human resources who will be useful for the future of children and the community, making the best use of each encounter. With that in mind, we have founded the Guam International School, which connects Japan and Guam, as an international preschool for infants, an international kindergarten, and an international after school for kindergarten to fourth graders, all with a specialization in English education.

Our basic educational policy is “independence”. We aim to educate children to be independent. “Independence” begins with the curriculum and interactions in daily life. At this school, a coordinator who has experience with IB (International School Baccalaureate Education) supervises. Please feel free to visit us. We’ll be expecting you.

WE GIVE EVERY CHILD THE ABILITY TO LEARN HOW TO SPEAK AND READ, FOR THEM TO KNOW THAT LIFE IS WORTHY OF LIVING!

We have 3 courses at Guam International School!

Guam International School Curriculum

We design a curriculum suitable for children of any background and ages based on the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International School Baccalaureate (IB), a universal curriculum mainly used by international schools. PYP is an international program for the ages of 3 to 12.  It aims to develop both the mind and the heart not only in an academic aspect, but also develop  Social Skills, Health, Emotions, and Cultural Awareness.

FIRM ENGLISH FOUNDATION FOR MY CHILD IS A MUST, ONLY TO GIS, I CAN PUT MY TRUST !

What is the GIS original curriculum?

The purpose of the GIS original curriculum is to grow young people who can contribute to the construction of a better and peaceful world and who are scholarly, intelligent and considerate through understanding and respect for different cultures.
In the GIS original curriculum, we provide human resources for education that pursue the following 10 items.

Inquirers

Knowledgeable

Thinkers

Communicators

Principled

Open-minded

Caring

Risk-takers

Balanced

Reflective

What is the Primary Years Program?

The Primary Years Program is education aimed at developing “problem finding and solving” skills.

The Primary Years Program is for elementary school students in the International Baccalaureate. At our school, we implement an inquiry-type curriculum that incorporates all the elements of the Primary Years Program. It consists of Project A, which has a theme for each day of the week, and Project B, which mainly conducts “discussion time” and “physical education.”

GIS YOUR ALLY IN GIVING YOUR CHILD A GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE FUTURE.”

“Inquiry learning” with 6 themes.

 Who we are

Where we are in place and time

 How we express ourselves

 How the world works

 How we organize ourselves

 Sharing the planet

Guam International School Founding Thoughts

Make use of the interaction with Guam in the education of children.

Keiichi Okouchi, the founder of our school, was appointed by the Governor of Guam on June 20, 2000 with the title of “Guam Honorary Ambassador at Large” for the exchange between Guam and Japan.

Since 2004, we have been visiting and interacting with Merizo Village and Merizo Elementary School in the southern district every fall, and a training exchange agreement for English teachers has been realized between the University of Guam and Saitama City.

“I want to continue doing what I can do as Guam’s Honorary Ambassador at Large in order to continue the exchange without problems.”

With that in mind, we are making efforts to make this school a part of our activities.

ENGLISH LEARNING IS AT ITS PEAK, BECAUSE CHILDREN HERE ARE LOVED AND MOTIVATED!

Guam Honorary Ambassador at Large, Keiichi Okouchi.

In the wake of his appointment of the 6th PTA chairman of Kamiko Elementary School in Saitama city, he has served as a chairman of the Omiya City PTA Federation, a permanent director of the Saitama PTA Federation, a PTA chairman of Sakuragi Junior High School in Saitama city and a PTA chairman of Saitama Prefectural Omiya High School.

On June 20, 2000, he was appointed as “Honorary Ambassador at Large” by the Governor of Guam for exchange between Guam and Japan. After taking office, the University of Guam and Saitama City realized a training exchange agreement for English teachers.

Preschool

What is Guam International School Preschool?
(For 1-2.7 years old)

From 1 to 2.7 years old, native teachers and Japanese (nursery teacher) staff provide early English education and work on the theme of problem finding and solving skills.

There is toilet training, lunch instruction, etc., but we do not set a special time for “nap”. If children want to sleep, they will be educated to go to the “sleeping space” themselves. Depending on their age, we offer a pick-up service.

After School

What is Guam International School After School?
(Kindergarten to 4th grade)

Children from 1st to 4th grade of elementary school spend the day using only English in a place where they can enjoy playing after school. Children learn to respect their Japanese identity and enjoy learning English as a Second Language (ESL). A place to play, enjoy and learn in daily life. That is GIS. Native teachers and bilingual staff will provide guidance to children, so that they can experience Japanese and foreign cultures and gain various experiences to develop their individuality and international sensibilities.

In addition, we hold a “Saturday school” every Saturday for toddlers and children attending nearby kindergartens and elementary schools. Students can experience an international school for a long time (6 hours) and learn from native teachers.
